Do you have chronic pain that traditional therapy or medicine hasn’t helped? Have you undergone test after test without getting any real answers? Do you take medicine that seems to mask your pain, but never really makes you feel better? Myofascial Release (MFR) may be the answer you have been seeking.

MFR, as taught by John F. Barnes P.T., is a very gentle hands-on therapy that includes application of mild sustained pressure into the connective tissue, or fascia. This long, sustained pressure allows this fascia to "unwind" 3 dimensionally throughout our body. Fascia surrounds and invades every part of our body. It can be found in every organ, muscle, nerve, blood vessel and cell. It actually is one continuous sheath that runs from the top of our head to the tip of our toes; it is woven throughout our body like one big "cobweb".

When this system is stressed, through physical injury and/or emotional strain, the collagenous fibers that were once flexible and fluid become rigid and firm, compressing into each other at a rate of 2000 pounds per square inch. This compression is what causes fascial "restrictions" within our bodies. As one system is torqued and compressed, it begins to pull and torque the "cobweb" of fascia throughout our body. Many times what begins as a strain in one area of the body often turns into multiple aches and pains in other places.

MFR is a therapeutic technique that not only treats the body, but the mind and spirit as well. Fascial restrictions are located, gently compressed and held as the tissue begins to unwind and release. Often there is an immediate sensation of relaxation and improved range of motion. John F. Barnes, P.T. trained MFR therapists, are trained to pay attention to the symptoms, but always look elsewhere for the cause, something that traditional medicine may sometimes overlook.

If you have experienced any of the following: Auto Accident, Sports Injury, Headaches/Migraines, Whiplash, TMJ, Fibromyalgia, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Tennis Elbow, IBS, PMS, Plantar Fasciitis, post surgical scarring or just feel the need to "de-compress", please call Scrobonia Therapy Services. We would be glad to discuss your specific needs with you.
